Saturday and Sunday Submissions to KSVDL

Rachel Corn, VT, Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory

It never fails that emergencies happen on Friday afternoon and you need to get samples to the diagnostic lab immediately. Fortunately, Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Lab is open Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. While not all of our lab sections are operating on Saturday, several are, including Clinical Pathology/Clinical Hematology, Clinical Microbiology, Histopathology, and Necropsy. We also have personnel present to check in samples and properly store them until they can be delivered to the appropriate laboratory on Monday morning.

If you are located close enough to KSVDL, you can drop off samples anytime either at the diagnostic lab receiving area, from 8 a.m. to noon, or at the Veterinary Health Center emergency desk at all other times.

You can also ship samples on Friday for Saturday delivery. To assure Saturday delivery, you must use a special label (below is a complete description of the KSVDL discounted shipping options).

Dropping off samples on Saturday or Sunday or using UPS or FedEx Saturday delivery will provide faster results than holding samples for Monday shipment.

In order to help you with shipping costs KSVDL offers UPS for the following prices:

  • Next Day Air: $15
    • Next Day Air labels are guaranteed delivery by 3 pm the business day after shipping
    • 2nd Day Air: $9
      • 2nd Day Air labels are guaranteed by the end of the second business day.
      • Saturday Delivery: $22
      • Ground: $7
        • Ground label shipments are typically delivered overnight if they are being shipped from locations in Kansas, the south half of Nebraska or the west half of Missouri.

If you use a Ground or Next Day Air label and shipping on Friday, UPS will not deliver until Monday.

Discounted shipping using KSVDL labels are valid for any shipment up to 15 lbs. All of the labels offered are through UPS and can be purchased by contacting Client Care at 866-512-5650 or clientcare@vet.k-state.edu.

If you know your KSVDL account number you can also make labels online by going to www.ksvdl.org and clicking on Create UPS Label on the right hand side of the page.
