A Great Variety of Resources Available Through KSVDL

By Rachel Corn, VT

Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Lab is working hard to make your job as a veterinary technician easier. Below is just a small list of the supplies and services we offer and how to access them.

Supplies

At KSVDL we understand that every clinic is not going to need 10 feline trich pouches or 50 viral swabs so we have many supplies available for purchase by clinics. There is no minimum order amount for any of the supplies. Supplies we have available include:

  • Feline and Bovine Trich Pouches
  • Tube mailers (hold 5 tubes)
  • Slide holders (hold 5 slides)
  • Swabs- Copan E-swabs, viral swabs, and 28’’ guarded swabs
  • Histo Kits (contains all of the containers and packaging to submit 18 samples for histopathology)
  • with prepaid UPS ground return labels (*Free!*)
  • CWD Kits for hunters or deer farms
  • Necropsy Kits (containers and packaging for submitting samples from a field necropsy)
  • Insulated Boxes
  • UPS shipping labels

Supplies can be ordered by contacting Client Care at clientcare@vet.k-state.edu or 866-512-5650.

Online Resources

Our website, www.ksvdl.org, has several resources to help answer many of your questions.

In the middle of the page there is a tab labeled “Tests & Fees”. When you select this tab, it will take you to the searchable test catalog which is searchable. The catalog will provide information for each test including the cost, appropriate samples to submit, and expected turnaround time.

The next tab over is “Submission Forms”which has all of the current submission forms for you to print. We update the submission forms as we have more tests available.

On the left-hand side of the page is a grey button labeled “Videos/Resources”. This link will take you to the large variety of videos on different diseases or sampling techniques for a multitude of species. It also opens a list of other resources at your fingertips, including how to use our mobile app, case workups, and archived newsletters.

Client Care

The last resource I would like to tell you about is our client care team. We have people available on weekdays from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm to answer any question you might have. If they do not know the answer they will connect you to one of our outreach veterinarians, a pathologist, or a lab supervisor depending on your question. You can also contact them to order supplies and change details on the clinic’s account. They can be reached by email at clientcare@vet.k-state.eduor by phone at 866-512-5650.
