Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Testing in Cervids

The CDC completed a study suggesting non-human primates could become infected by consuming meat from CWD-infected deer or elk. Although not proven, such studies suggest that humans may be susceptible to infection if infected meat is consumed.

KSVDL offers a CWD sampling kit that includes submission materials and supplies. To order a kit please call KSVDL Client Care at 866-512-5650 or email at clientcare@vet.k-state.edu.

Test charge is $28.00 per animal and turnaround time is 3-4 days. An additional processing charge of $15.00 will be added, if the whole head is submitted.

Watch the short video below for further instructions on collection and packaging.
