Reportable Disease Policy
Reporting of Diseases Required by Law
Some infectious or contagious diseases are considered reportable under current regulations (K.S.A. 47-622. (K.A.R. 9-27-1). As required by law, these diseases are reported to the responsible state or federal agencies. If you are uncertain about the reporting status of a disease, please contact the office of the Kansas State Veterinarian at 785-270-1300. Notifiable diseases included any livestock or poultry disease designated as a 'Foreign Animal Disease' by the United States Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services, Veterinary Services (USDA, APHIS, VS) and also those listed by the Kansas Animal Health Department:
- Anthrax
- Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy
- All species of Brucellosis
- Chronic Wasting Disease
- Classical Swine Fever
- Equine Infectious Anemia
- Hog Cholera
- Pseudorabies
- Psoroptic Mange
- Rabies
- Tuberculosis
- Vesicular Stomatitis
- Avian Influenza
- Pullorum
- Fowl Typhoid
- Paramyxovirus
- Psittacosis
- Viscerotropic Velogenic Newcastle Disease
- Foot and Mouth Disease
- Rinderpest
- African Swine Fever
- Piroplasmosis
- Vesicular Exanthema
- Johne's Disease
- Scabies
- Tritrichomonas Foetus
- Bovine Leukosis
- Other diseases as determined reportable by the Livestock Commissioner
