Bovine Theileria Update

The number of new herds found to be infected with Theileria orientalis Ikeda continues to grow in the Midwest. Map below indicating positive test herds.

T. orientalis and Anaplasma marginale PCR results present with different cycle time patterns. Positive anaplasma samples tend to have lower Ct. values. Graph below.

Of the samples tested for both Anaplasma marginale and Theileria, 5% have been found to be positive for both organisms.
