DID YOU KNOW?
Soil selenium concentration impacts forage selenium levels. According to the 2019 U.S. Geological Survey, multiple North/Northwest Kansas counties contain high levels of soil selenium. (Dark blue areas below) KSVDL has been involved in several cases of selenium toxicity/excess in beef herds in these areas of Kansas over the last year. Selenium status of beef and dairy herds can be assessed by either serum or hepatic selenium testing at KSVDL.
