Bovine Neonatal Diarrhea Diagnostic Results: 2023
By Dr. Gregg Hanzlicek
Rotavirus continues to be the most common pathogen found in diarrhea workups year after year with the combination of Rotavirus and Coronavirus being second most common.
Our present E. coli portion of the neonatal diarrhea PCR panel targets genotype F5 (previously known as K99). We are improving this assay to also target a known pathogenic genotype F41.
The KSVDL possesses the technology to compare the virus strain found in a diarrhea outbreak to all vaccine virus strains including those not used on the operation. For relatively closed herds, this does provide practitioners another tool when making vaccine selection recommendations.
